8th Grade Project

For my 8th grade project, I want to do graffiti. I think that they wont let me do the project because they might think there is not enough information about graffiti to be worth doing a project on it. I think differently. I have already done some research on it and it originated as a way for gangs to communicate. Each style was for a different gang. I have also thought about my visual and I have made some stencils to paint on the sheet of plywood my dad is getting me. There are many graffiti artists that paint all over and some of their work is actually considered public art. One example, and probably the most famous is Banksy. Robert Banksy is my favorite graffiti artist because his art is so original. My favorite piece is one of a little girl whose balloon is floating away, and she has a hand outstretched to try and get it. The balloon is in the shape of a heart, and it’s red. The rest of the painting is black and white.

I liked this entry because you gave a thorough description of what you're going to do for your eighth grade project. I think that sounds like a cool idea. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done! Good job!

This sounds like a really good idea! I remember in 5th grade when Ms. Munceys class took a field trip to Seattle and we saw all this really cool graffiti on the sides on buildings! I liked how you said that you found all this information on the internet because that means that you really really want to do this!!

Yeah, I think graffiti is really interesting and cool. I 've always wondered how it is done, it seems really hard. This sounds like it is going to be a very unique project. I liked this entry because you made it really easy to understand the way graffiti was used. Also, even though I've never seen your favorite Bansky graffiti piece you described it so I could imagine it.

Hey Daniel, i really liked this entry. I thought it was well written because you really explained a lot about graffiti and why you think its interesting. I have heard of the artist you are talking about, but i haven't seen that piece, but i still think thats really cool. I know a place you should go somewhere in Bothell that is a play with a BIG cement wall and people just practice graffiti on it! I went once with my cousin. Anyways, i thought this was good, and i hope they said you could do it :)

I hope they let you do it!
I liked this because you gave detail and you were right about people not thinking about the research because a lot of people cosider it vandilizing but it is art.

Daniel,
I always laugh when i read the title of your blog, "Its Daniel Time." It reminds me of a kid show i used to watch, it was about a clown, and she was always pulling this crap out of her couch. and her doll scared me. And also the dust bunnies that lived under her couch that spyed on her or something. OK, getting off subject, I liked this because it is a unique topic, and im sure know one else is doing it. Its cool how you are doing it on grafiti, i always think that grafiti takes talent. Usually when i am in seattle, i try to find grafiti. A lot of them look really cool, but some are just a name, no time or effort put into it. good job, keep writing.
